U.S. Masters Swimming Registers 50,000th Member
#50,000 from Georgia !!!!!
September 2, 2009 – U.S. Masters Swimming reached a historic milestone, registering its 50,000th member. This marks the first time U.S. Masters Swimming has ever registered more than 50,000 members in a given year.
“Our 2009 growth, up more than 11% from 2008, has been spectacular given the current financial climate. It speaks to the importance that people are placing on their personal health and well-being,” says U.S. Masters Swimming President Rob Copeland. “Our growth can be attributed to our many volunteers, who serve as passionate ambassadors for our mission; to Masters coaches, who give so unselfishly to enhance the member experience
The 50,000th member is Sally Bradley. Bradley is a teacher and lives in Columbus, Ga. “Swimming has been the most consistent form of fitness for me in my whole life,” she says, adding, “Nothing makes me feel better than swimming. I’ve had to take some time away from it but I’m excited to be back.”
Sally will be celebrated with a feature article on the organization’s website, usms.org. She will also receive a recognition certificate and other memorabilia commemorating the milestone.
Francine Williamson
Francine has long been a shining star in Georgia Swimming and on the National and World stage. She currently holds the World and American record for the 100M Freestyle in the Women's 60-64 age group (LCM) and the American record in the Women's 60-64 100/200/500 yard Freestyles (SCY); Not to mention countless Georgia and Dixie Zone records in several age groups.
Francine has a daughter Erin who also swims for Georgia Masters in the W20-24 age group.

June Callaway (75-79)
June returns from the Georgia Golden Olympics with 5 Gold medals! She should be an inspiration to all of us who have not gotten past 70 yet. Hopefully, we will all get past 70 and we'll still be swimming just like June and other >70 swimmers!!! For those of you under 30, you never feel old if you keep swimming.
June holds (6) individual Georgia State Records.
