Because his family lived across from the swim center, Joe\'s parents signed him up for the Santa Rosa Neptunes, where he swam for 12 years. While with the Neptunes, Joe qualified for the Junior Nationals and made the finals in the 200 back. Joe attended Denison University in Granville, Ohio. Joe was a member of the swim team and a Division III NCAA qualifier and finalist for all of his four years at Denison, and served as team captain his senior year. Joe graduated with a B.A. in economics and a minor in psychology. After toiling for four years as a bond trader in San Francisco, Joe embarked on an extended tour of the world, visiting three continents before moving to Hawaii in August 2004, where ex-Denison swim teammate Ben Douglass recruited him to join the PAQ coaching staff. While at PAQ, he worked with all groups at one time or another, but his main responsibilities were assisting Coach Ben with the senior group and coaching a group during the early age group practice. For two years, Coach Joe was a dedicated and loyal coach to PAQ little kids and seniors. He was an outstanding motivator and a great role model for our swimmers. Joe took a break from coaching club swimming to earn his teaching certificate and has been teaching social studies at Farrington High School since 2006. He is proud to have restarted their dormant swimming program after 10 years of inactivity. He also recently served a brief stint as head coach of Pearl Harbor Aquatics. You\'ll see Joe competing at the open water swims across the island. He enjoys surfing, hiking, traveling, running, cycling and most of all coaching swimming!! In September 2008, Coach Joe returned to PAQ to serve as head coach. He hopes to "carry on the great tradition of the club."
\r\n

\r\n
Coach Yan Chen
\r\n
Coach Yan hails from China , where she was on the Chinese National Swim Team from 1994-2002.
