Clay moved to Huntington Beach at 15 and was recruited by UCLA on a swimming and water polo scholarship. Before entering UCLA, Clay represented Canada in the Munich Olympics. He was a four year All-American and NCAA finalist in the 100 fly and an Olympic silver medallist at the Montreal Olympics. Clay has broken over 40 Masters National and World records. After graduating from UCLA, Clay began his coaching career with Team Santa Monica while he was in graduate school in Architecture. After practicing Architecture in Europe and Saudi Arabia, Clay returned to West L.A. and concentrated on developing SCAQ into the largest Masters swimming program in the U.S. In 1993, Clay was selected as the United States Masters Coach of the Year. In 1999, Clay was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Masters Aquatic Coaches Association. <P></span></td>\n        </tr>\n        <tr>\n            <td colspan=\"2\"><hr></td>\n        </tr><tr valign=\"top\">\n\t\t<td><img src=\"http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e314/downtownreo/bonnie.jpg\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"15\" border=\"0\"><strong><span class=\"coachesName\">Bonnie Adair</span></strong> <span class=\"coachesBio\">was born in El Segundo, California, and started swimming and diving at age 5. Bonnie set 35 National Age Group records and for 29 years held the fastest 50-meter freestyle record for an 8-year-old. Bonnie competed in 14 National Championships (her first at age 13) and 2 Olympic Trials. She was many times a National finalist in the 100 free and 100 fly and a member of a 400-meter Medley Relay that established 6 American records. Bonnie attended UCLA as an undergraduate and then Loyola Law School. During law school, Bonnie was the assistant coach of the UCLA Women\'s Swim Team and also coached Team Santa Monica age group team. In 1979, Bonnie, along with Clay Evans, created the Santa Monica Masters Swim Team, which later became SCAQ. From 1996-1999 Bonnie coached both the Men\'s and Women\'s swimming teams at Santa Monica College and in 1997 was honored as the Western State Conference Woman\'s Coach of the Year while also receiving United States Masters Coach of the Year.  In 2002-3, Bonnie began assisting with the LMU Women\'s Swim Team as a volunteer and in 2004, was hired as the program\'s first full-time Head Coach. <P></span></td>\n        </tr>\n        <tr>\n            <td colspan=\"2\"><hr></td>\n        </tr><tr valign=\"top\">\n\t\t<td><img src=\"https://www.clubassistant.com/c/C4CA423/image/DSCF0632(2).JPG\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"15\" border=\"0\"><strong><span class=\"coachesName\">Dmitriy Banov</span></strong> <span class=\"coachesBio\">was born in Kiev, Ukraine and ventured to the States in 1994. Dmitriy started swimming at the age of 15 as a sophomore at Palisades High school. That is where he caught on the spirit of competitive swimming, and joined the local Palisades Malibu YMCA to swim age group year round. His specialties included butterfly, IM, and free. The highest achievements as a swimmer was first place in the 4x50 free relay at the city championships, and a participation in long course YMCA nationals. After high school he swam at Santa Monica College for 2 years,and transferred to California State University Northridge to study electrical engineering. Besides coaching, Dmitiy, tutors math, physics, and program. He also enjoys reading, weightlifting, hiking, kayaking, long camping trips, skiing, yoga, and tai chi <P></span></td>\n        </tr>\n        <tr>\n            <td colspan=\"2\"><hr></td>\n        </tr><tr valign=\"top\">\n\t\t<td><img src=\"http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e314/downtownreo/dale.jpg\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"15\" border=\"0\"><strong><span class=\"coachesName\">Lauren Dale</span></strong> <span class=\"coachesBio\">I was born in Los Angeles. At age 7 I learned to swim, and that same year I joined my first swim team at the Westchester park pool. Over the years I swam for Parks and Rec at Westchester, Westchester and Culver Palms YMCAs, and Team Santa Monica. I attended High School at Venice where I swam all four years and was a co-captain with fellow SCAQ coach Ken Haskett in 1994. I placed 1st in the 100 backstroke and 2nd in the 50 freestyle four consecutive years at City Championships. I currenty hold 5 individual and 2 relay records at Venice High School. I went on to swim for the University of Pittsburgh for 2 years where I swam the same events. In 1996 I was hired on by the LA County Fire Department Lifeguards which is where I\'m currenty employed as an Ocean Lifeguard Speacialist Permanent. My hobbies and interests include knitting, swimming, and reading, but what I enjoy the most is hopping on a plane, or taking a long drive (ie escaping/travel). <P></span></td>\n        </tr>\n        <tr>\n            <td colspan=\"2\"><hr></td>\n        </tr><tr valign=\"top\">\n\t\t<td><strong><span class=\"coachesName\">Wade Federer</span></strong> <span class=\"coachesBio\">Wade is currently swimming at USC for the Trojan Swim Club, while pursuing his degree. Prior to transferring to USC, Wade swam for Ventura College -- where he broke the Conference record in the 200 medley relay (2009).  He has also qualified for State Championships, specializing in the 100 butterfly. In 2010 at the Southern Pacific Masters Swimming Long Course Zone Championships, Wade was high point trophy winner for his age group and was also part of several National record-breaking relay teams. In addition, Wade has competed in several triathlons, open water swims and aqua-thons…placing in all of them.    Wade has used his experience as a competitive swimmer and as a triathlete to prepare many athletes for triathlons, swim meets, and open water swims. His four years of swim instructor experience prior to coaching has given him a strong knowledge of swimming technique and teaching skills. Wade has been coaching for the past 4 years and has a real passion for swimming, and loves sharing it with others. <P></span></td>\n        </tr>\n        <tr>\n            <td colspan=\"2\"><hr></td>\n        </tr><tr valign=\"top\">\n\t\t<td><img src=\"https://www.clubassistant.com/c/C4CA423/image/Keri.jpg\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"15\" border=\"0\"><strong><span class=\"coachesName\">Keri Hehn</span></strong> <span class=\"coachesBio\">Originally from Fargo, North Dakota, Keri made the move to Southern California to train under USC Head Coach, Olympic and USA National Team Coach Dave Salo.  A University of Minnesota alum, Keri was an NCAA All-American, undefeated through college dual competitions, and All Team Big Ten member in the breaststroke events. A member of the USA National Team since 2002, Keri was competitive on the international scene by competing in the 2003 World University Games (Daegu, Korea), 2007 Pan American Games (Rio de Janiero, Brazil), and the 2009 FINA World Championships (Rome, Italy).  She was a two time Olympic Trails finalist in 2004 and 2008.  In addition to swimming, Keri has received her spinning and yoga certificate from YAS Fitness Center where she currently is still teaching. <P></span></td>\n        </tr>\n        <tr>\n            <td colspan=\"2\"><hr></td>\n        </tr><tr valign=\"top\">\n\t\t<td><img src=\"http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e314/downtownreo/scott.jpg\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"15\" border=\"0\"><strong><span class=\"coachesName\">Scott Hubbard</span></strong> <span class=\"coachesBio\">was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and raised as a classic northern Midwesterner. Hunting, fishing and ice sports were Scott\'s true love.  Learning to swim became an issue of safety for all the Hubbard\'s living in the land of 1,000 lakes. He began competitive swimming at an early age and by 14, moved to Sacramento bringing his swimming talents with him. By age 16, Scott was ranked 16th and 20th in the world in the 400 and 200-meter freestyle, respectively. A high school All- American in both swimming and water polo, Scott also participated in the 1988 Olympic Trials. Scott accepted a swimming scholarship to UCLA in the fall of 1990. Now an account representative for Verizon, Scott began coaching with SCAQ in 1997. Scott enjoys mountain biking, cooking, and actively pursues his hobby of entomology. <P></span></td>\n        </tr>\n        <tr>\n            <td colspan=\"2\"><hr></td>\n        </tr><tr valign=\"top\">\n\t\t<td><img src=\"http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e314/downtownreo/cam.jpg\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"15\" border=\"0\"><strong><span class=\"coachesName\">Cameron Hunt</span></strong> <span class=\"coachesBio\">started age group swimming at 4 in Temple City, Ca. Loving the water he continued to compete in both swimming and water polo through high school. Cameron played club water polo and continued to swim for fitness until 2003. Cameron also coached both swimming and water polo at Temple City High school for 2 years. His love for coaching brought him back to the deck, after swimming for SCAQ for the past 5 years.     <P>\r\nToday Cameron works for Medtronic selling pacemakers and defibrillators. Actually, Coach Jamie is powered by one of Cameron\'s Pacemakers.    <P>\r\nStaying in good cardiac shape helps Cameron educate the importance of good health for his patients. Outside of swimming Cameron is still active and plays softball and golf. Cameron also volunteers for a camp for kids with congenital heart disease. <P></span></td>\n        </tr>\n        <tr>\n            <td colspan=\"2\"><hr></td>\n        </tr><tr valign=\"top\">\n\t\t<td><img src=\"http://www.swim.net/coachhelenlee.gif\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"15\" border=\"0\"><strong><span class=\"coachesName\">Helen Lee</span></strong> <span class=\"coachesBio\">was born and raised in Santa Monica, Ca.  She began swimming at age 16 at Santa Monica High.  She went on to join the USS age group swim team, Team Santa Monica.  She then attended Wheaton College in Massachusetts, where she swam all four years.  She qualified for New England League Championships all four years and had personal bests in the 100 and 200 breastroke.  Helen graduated with a degree in Environmental Science in May, 1999 and moved back to Santa Monica.  She worked with the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District as a lab analyst.  She left the water business to pursue a career in environmental consulting.  She kept herself busy by continuing her education in the sciences by obtaining a Masters degree in Environmental Science at Loyola Marymount University.  She received her degree in May 2007. <P></span></td>\n        </tr>\n        <tr>\n            <td colspan=\"2\"><hr></td>\n        </tr><tr valign=\"top\">\n\t\t<td><img src=\"http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e314/downtownreo/Jamie1-1.jpg\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"15\" border=\"0\"><strong><span class=\"coachesName\">Jamie Magin</span></strong> <span class=\"coachesBio\">grew up in Evergreen, Colorado where he enjoyed the outdoor life.  Due to a lack of pools in Evergreen, Jamie did not begin his swimming career until the age of 15.  Jamie swam competitively in high school and continued his swimming career at the University of Denver.  When he finished his collegiate swimming career, Jamie began competitive downhill skiing.  After graduating from college, Jamie lived in Telluride, CO where he competed as a professional skier and coached skiing as well. <P></span></td>\n        </tr>\n        <tr>\n            <td colspan=\"2\"><hr></td>\n        </tr><tr valign=\"top\">\n\t\t<td><img src=\"https://www.clubassistant.com/c/C4CA423/image/mallory_mead(2).JPG\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"15\" border=\"0\"><strong><span class=\"coachesName\">Mallory Mead</span></strong> <span class=\"coachesBio\">At the age of ten, Mallory competed in her first open water swim on a whim at a Zone Championship meet. Since then, Mallory has completed some of the worlds most famous open water swims. In 2004, at the age of 18, Mallory completed her first major marathon swim, the 28.5 mile Manhattan Island Marathon Swim, in which she placed 4th overall. In 2008, Mallory was the Fastest American and Fastest Female of the Year to swim the 21 miles across the English Channel under the Channel Swimming Assocation. In August 2010, Mallory posted the fastest women\'s time of the year for the 21-mile Catalina Channel, the second fastest time overall. In addition, she also became the 39th person in the world to complete the \"Triple Crown\" of open water swimming consisting of the English Channel, the Catalina Channel, and the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim. While open water swimming is her area of greatest expertise, she also swam collegiately for Western Kentucky University from 2004-2008 where she swam a large variety of event, including Sprint and Middle Distance Freestyle, 200 Butterfly, and 400 IM.    <P>\r\nMallory comes to Los Angeles via Indianapolis, where she coached a Master\'s Training Group at Lifetime Fitness for a year and a half. She is also the race founder and director for the Swim For Kids\' Sake charity swim in Culver, Indiana, and keeps an open water swimming-themed blog at <A HREF=\"http://mallorymead.com\" TARGET=\"_blank\">http://mallorymead.com</A>. <P></span></td>\n        </tr>\n        <tr>\n            <td colspan=\"2\"><hr></td>\n        </tr><tr valign=\"top\">\n\t\t<td><img src=\"http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e314/downtownreo/11.jpg\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"15\" border=\"0\"><strong><span class=\"coachesName\">Rada Owen</span></strong> <span class=\"coachesBio\">Rada Owen was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia where she began her swimming career at the age of 5. She is a graduate of Auburn University where she swam as a member of one of the top swim programs in the country. While there she held numerous team records, was a 6 time Southeastern Conference Champion, a 14-time All American, and was key in developing a national championship winning team. She competed for the United States in various international competitions, the highlight being the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. An incredibly technical swimmer, her stroke has been described as \"flawless\" by many of the world\'s most influential coaches. Her highly sought after technique is the basis for the many swim clinics she has run around the world. She lends her stroke demonstration to the popular \"Swimming Faster Freestyle\" DVD series and has been the focus of many magazines articles depicting her form.  She retired from competition in 2003, and now competes at Master\'s meets..usually only once a year and only in the relay events. <P></span></td>\n        </tr>\n        <tr>\n            <td colspan=\"2\"><hr></td>\n        </tr><tr valign=\"top\">\n\t\t<td><img src=\"http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e314/downtownreo/drew-1.jpg\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"15\" border=\"0\"><strong><span class=\"coachesName\">Drew Porter</span></strong> <span class=\"coachesBio\">Drew has over 20 years of experience coaching all levels, including USS Club, High School and Masters level teams.  He has a degree from Michigan State University in Kinesiology (human movement). While at Michigan State, Drew designed on and off-season training programs for athletes as well as regimens for athletes with special needs and disabilities i.e., MS, Polio, Down Syndrome, CP, CF, Cancer, etc.     <P>\r\n  Drew has competed at the national level for most of his career and spent three years training with the members of the Australian National Teams in swimming, competitive surf lifesaving and water polo.  In 2008, he placed top 3 in both the Alcatraz \"Swim or Die\" Challenge and Golden Gate to Bay Bridge races, and continues to compete in the Masters swimming circuit in both pool and open water competitions.       <P>\r\n  While working as a personal trainer at Sports Club/LA, Drew founded and ran the Sports Club/LA Masters swim program for more than 6 years.  He is a Certified Personal Trainer, Bronze Medallion Surf Lifesaver, Level I Certified USA Swim coach, Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, as well as corrective exercise specialist and strength and conditioning coach.     <P>\r\n  Drew currently resides in Los Angeles, coaches Masters swimming for Southern California Aquatics (SCAQ) and trains private clients and groups at UCLA Sunset Recreation Swim Center. <P></span></td>\n        </tr>\n        <tr>\n            <td colspan=\"2\"><hr></td>\n        </tr><tr valign=\"top\">\n\t\t<td><img src=\"http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e314/downtownreo/suzanne.jpg\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"15\" border=\"0\"><strong><span class=\"coachesName\">Suzanne Robertson</span></strong> <span class=\"coachesBio\">Born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama, Suzanne has been swimming since before she could walk.  With her first swim lesson at 5 months old, she began competing at the age of 4.  She swam year-round with Huntsville Swim Association under Brooke Pate and Fran Norris, as well as with the local summer league.  She continued to swim in college with the University of Alabama masters, continuing her love of the sport. Suzanne has spent most of her life in and around a pool;  be it swimming, coaching or lifeguarding - the water is a second home.    <P>\r\nWhen she\'s not in the pool, Suzanne enjoys yoga, hiking,pursing her life goal to compete on Jeopardy, and furthering her career in the film and TV industries. <P></span></td>\n        </tr>\n        <tr>\n            <td colspan=\"2\"><hr></td>\n        </tr><tr valign=\"top\">\n\t\t<td><img src=\"https://www.clubassistant.com/c/C4CA423/image/Silke_web_pic.jpg\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"15\" border=\"0\"><strong><span class=\"coachesName\">Silke Rogatko</span></strong> <span class=\"coachesBio\">Silke Rogatko (b. Pielen) joined SCAQ this spring to assist Clay and Kathryn as a coordinator and coach at Echo Park and USC. Silke brings many years of diverse professional experiences as well as valuable coaching skills. Competing in the 1972 Munich Olympics, she brought home a bronze medal for West Germany. As a backstroker, she made the National Team for several European Championships and World Cups, holding numerous national records and swam a world best time in 1971. Silke first started swimming and coaching with SCAQ in 1983, eventually moving back to Germany in 1987.  In 1998 she returned to the U.S. and consequently settled back in L.A last fall. Silke is happily re-married to a Brazilian geneticist at Cedars Sinai and has 3 children ages 18, 21, 25. Amazed by the expansion and development of SCAQ over the last 30 years, she is excited to be back and especially passionate about helping new swimmers. Silke is a USC alum and will also function as the liaison for the USC Trojan Masters.     <P>\r\n\"Over the years I have coached swimmers of all ages and it has brought me an immeasurable amount of joy. Swimming is an activity that can be learned and practiced at any age and is one of the healthiest activities one can do. His schedule permitting, he tries to workout 4-5 days per week at various pools. He grew up in Orange County, and swam competitively for 9 years in the 1970\'s and early 1980\'s. He works as a professional photographer and artist. <P></span></td>\n        </tr>\n        <tr>\n            <td colspan=\"2\"><hr></td>\n        </tr><tr valign=\"top\">\n\t\t<td><img src=\"http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e314/downtownreo/blair.jpg\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"15\" border=\"0\"><strong><span class=\"coachesName\">Blair Schoolhouse</span></strong> <span class=\"coachesBio\">I was born and raised in Los Angeles California.  I started swimming at a young age, however I gravitated towards surfing rather than swimming competitively while growing up. It was until later in life that I picked up competitive swimming again during my college years.      <P>\r\nI recieved my Bachelor\'s in Science in Excercise Science at California State University Northridge, and I plan on going foward towards graduate school next year. <P></span></td>\n        </tr>\n        <tr>\n            <td colspan=\"2\"><hr></td>\n        </tr><tr valign=\"top\">\n\t\t<td><img src=\"http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e314/downtownreo/pam3.jpg\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"15\" border=\"0\"><strong><span class=\"coachesName\">Pam Smith</span></strong> <span class=\"coachesBio\">Pam grew up swimming in central Illinois excelling at sprint freestyle.  With high school and USS championships on her resume, she was recruited by fellow SCAQ coach Susan Suomu to attend the University of Minnesota.  Some highlights from the glory days of Gopher swimming include, being a member of the Big Ten Champion 200 and 400 Freestyle relays, a member of the 10th place NCAA team, co-captain, and 5th year student assistant.      <P>\r\nAfter graduating, Illinois called Pam home and she went to grad school and worked in Chicago.  As a coach for UIC Masters and Northwestern (NASA) masters for a combined 10 years, Pam brings lots of experience with many different types of swimmers.      <P>\r\nPam currently works at a private school for children with autism after relocating in summer of 2008. <P></span></td>\n        </tr>\n        <tr>\n            <td colspan=\"2\"><hr></td>\n        </tr><tr valign=\"top\">\n\t\t<td><img src=\"http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e314/downtownreo/susan-1.jpg\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"15\" border=\"0\"><strong><span class=\"coachesName\">Susan Suomu</span></strong> <span class=\"coachesBio\">was born and raised in Waukegan, Illinois. She began her swimming career at age 9 with Lake Forest Swim Club in Lake Forest, Illinois. When visiting her hometown, she still swims with the same club team and coaches.  Lured by the warm and tropical climate, Susan chose to attend the University of Minnesota, where she was a co-captain of the swim team her junior and senior years. Susan excelled in backstroke and mid-distance freestyle, qualifying for US Nationals in both strokes. She holds an undergraduate degree in early childhood education and a Masters in elementary education. She currently teaches kindergarten/first grade in Santa Monica/Malibu Unified, and loves her job!    <P>\r\nAs a Master\'s swimmer, Susan occasionally competes in ocean races, among which includes the Trans Tahoe co-ed relay. <P></span></td>\n        </tr>\n        <tr>\n            <td colspan=\"2\"><hr></td>\n        </tr><tr valign=\"top\">\n\t\t<td><img src=\"https://www.clubassistant.com/c/C4CA423/image/p-tolmachoff.jpg\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"15\" border=\"0\"><strong><span class=\"coachesName\">Erik Tolmachoff</span></strong> <span class=\"coachesBio\">Erik was born in Glendale Arizona and swam for the Gauchos swim team until his senior year in high school.  His senior year he moved to Fresno and swam for Clovis Swim Club.  He continued swimming at the University of Southern California and was on the varsity team from 1999-2003.  He competed in the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Trials and recently qualified for the 2008 Trials.  Though he is semi-retired he does not ever want to give up swimming and hopes to train and compete in the future in some capacity. <P></span></td>\n        </tr>\n        <tr>\n            <td colspan=\"2\"><hr></td>\n        </tr><tr valign=\"top\">\n\t\t<td><img src=\"http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e314/downtownreo/Jamie1-3.jpg\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"15\" border=\"0\"><strong><span class=\"coachesName\">Alex Tungland</span></strong> <span class=\"coachesBio\">Originally from Phoenix, Alex Tungland graduated from Loyola Marymount University in 2005 with a BA in English. After graduating high school, she coached the 8 & Under group for her home club team, Desert Thunder Aquatics Club, before moving to Los Angeles for college. At Loyola Marymount University (LMU), she competed all four years, and served as captain for her last two seasons. She has coached age group and masters locally and taught lessons in Southern California since 2005.    <P>\r\nWhen not swimming the entire SCAQ workout schedule, Alex can be found coaching the age groupers for Westside Aquatics. <P></span></td>\n        </tr>\n        <tr>\n            <td colspan=\"2\"><hr></td>\n        </tr><tr valign=\"top\">\n\t\t<td><img src=\"http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e314/downtownreo/krista-1.jpg\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"15\" border=\"0\"><strong><span class=\"coachesName\">Krista Zabor</span></strong> <span class=\"coachesBio\">Krista grew up in Phoenix, AZ and swam for Loyola Marymount University where she held numerous team records.  She did the Jesuit Volunteer Corps in Camden, NJ before moving back to LA to get her Masters in Social Work from USC, where she coaches once a week.
