Instructors: Mel Goldstein, Bill Brenner and Chad Durieux
Mel Goldstein was the 2001 Speedo US Masters Coach of the year, Mel won the 1997 Ransom J. Arthur MD Award that goes annually to a person who best supports the objectives of Masters swimming. It is the highest honor bestowed by United States Masters Swimming. He is a past President of USMS and a USMS All American with 255 Individual Top Ten Achievements. Mel was inducted into the International Masters Swimming Hall of Fame in 2012.
Bill Brenneris the Club and Coach Services Director for USMS. He has 30 years coaching experience working with age group, college and Masters swimmers. Bill has served as a support team member for his local Masters club, team representative to the LMSC, an LMSC officer as the Top Ten Recorder, a multi-year delegate to the USAS convention and a member of national committees. He has served as the meet director for multiple events and is currently helping to organize the Pan American Masters championship in Sarasota, Fla. He enjoys attracting adult athletes to the sport of swimming and coaching all levels of ability.
Chad Durieuxis the head Masters coach of Rose Bowl Aquatics in Pasadena, CA., a title he has held for 7 years. Chad has a total of 9 years experience coaching Masters, and 10 years with age group teams in Canada and at the RBAC. He is the 2011 USMS Coach of the year and the 2010 SPMS Coach of the year. Chad is ASCA level 3 certified and CSCTA (Canadian Swim Coaches and Teachers Association) Level 3 tech/theory certified.
Prerequisites: You must be a Masters Certified Level 2 coach and a current USMS Member to participate in the course. You must be a member of ASCA to receive certification. Level 2 and Level 3 cannot be taken during the same weekend. ASCA and USMS Membership information is provided on the application for this clinic. ASCA Membership fee is $70 for one year. Certification Process: Upon successful completion of the certification process, including all required memberships, applications and completed tests, each person will be awarded a USMS/ASCA Level 3 Coaches Certification certificate.
Fees: $225 for Level 3 Course.
Maximum: Maximum attendance is 30.
Who should attend? Current full-time, part-time or volunteer coaches who would like to explore the possibilities of coaching Masters swimmers as a profession. Anyone interested in supporting their existing team and coach. Anyone interested in starting a Masters Program.
Scholarships: The 1st 10 SPMS registered coaches that attend the clinic will receive a $75 reimbursement. Coaches will be required to pay for the course at time of registration and will then submit a reimbursement form at the completion of the clinic. Coach certification registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable to another individual. However, If you can provide the USMS national office with a minimum of 72 hours notice before the start of the scheduled course, you may transfer your registration to a course at an alternate date and location. Written email notification must be sent to clubandcoach@usmastersswimming.org
