Directions to VMAC:

From Honolulu (Waikiki) to VMAC - is about 18 miles: Get on the H-1 “west” for 14 miles; take the H-2 “north” 1 mile; take exit 2 (Ka Uka Blvd); turn left at first light; stay on Ka Uka Blvd. for 1.25 mile. You will enter the Pasty T. Mink Central Oahu Regional Park when you cross the stop light at Kamehameha Highway.
From West Coast (Ko Olina)- is about 13 miles: Take H-1 east for 10 miles; take H-2 north 1 mile; take exit 2 (Ka Uka Blvd.) stay on Ka Uka Blvd. for 1.25 mile. You will enter the Pasty T. Mink Central Oahu Regional Park when you cross the stop light at Kamehameha Highway.

Instructors: Nadine Day, Bill Brenner and Malcolm Cooper

Nadine Day was born and raised in the islands and has been part of the Master Swimming Ohana since 2001. She now resides in Illinois, where she is owner of a physical therapy practice and a Masters swim coach. She utilizes her skills as a physical therapist to assist her with coaching adult swimmers from all abilities. She also has worked with injured age group and masters swimmers to allow them to swim again painfree. She has been recognized as the Illinois High School Sectional Coach of the Year in 2006 and the Illinois Masters Coach of the Year in 2008. For her service, Nadine was awarded the USMS Dorothy Donnelly Service Award in 2007. She has serviced USMS as a swimmer, a club coach, LMSC sanction chair, LMSC vice chair, LMSC chair and she has also serviced on the national level as a member of various national committees. Most recently, Nadine serves as the President of United States Masters Swimming.

Bill Brenner is the Club and Coach Services Director for USMS. He has 30 years coaching experience working with age group, college and Masters swimmers. Bill has served as a support team member for his local Masters club, team representative to the LMSC, an LMSC officer as the Top Ten Recorder, a multi-year delegate to the USAS convention and a member of national committees. He has served as the meet director for multiple events and most recently helped organize the Pan American Masters championship in Sarasota, Fla. A USMS Level 3 certified Masters coach, he enjoys attracting adult athletes to the sport of swimming and coaching all levels of ability.

Malcolm Cooper grew up in upstate New York where he was a high school All-American in backstroke. He was an All-American sprint swimmer at Harvard College graduating in 1979. He's been swimming Masters since 1981, coaching masters from 1984-2000 in Pasadena, CA (Caltech-PAC masters), and has been coaching masters on Maui from 2002 through today. He has hosted over 20 open water events on Maui, swum and windsurfed channels between islands, and worked for Maui County Aquatics for 2 years overseeing Maui County pools and Ocean Safety. Malcolm won 5 Masters Nationals events in 2002 in Oahu, is a head coach of Maui Dolphins Swim Club (Age Group), is the general chair for Hawaii Masters LMSC, Age Group chair for Hawaiian Swimming (Age Group), and was inducted to the Hawaiian Swimming Hall of Fame in 2012.

Prerequisites: You must be a current USMS Member to participate in the course and receive USMS certification. You must be a member of ASCA to receive optional ASCA certification. USMS and ASCA membership information is provided on the application for this clinic. ASCA Membership fee is $70 for one year. More information about ASCA may be found here:

Certification Process: Upon completion of the classroom coursework, including all required applications and successfully completed tests, each person will be awarded a USMS Level 1 or 2 Certified Masters Coach certification. Coaches desiring optional ASCA Masters coach certification must complete the classroom coursework and submit all required membership, applications and completed tests directly to ASCA.

Fees: $170 for Levels 1 and 2 Certification. $95 for Level 1 or Level 2 only.

Maximum: Maximum attendance is 40.

Who should attend? Current full-time, part-time or volunteer coaches. Anyone interested in supporting their existing team and coach. Anyone interested in starting a Masters Program.

Cancellation Policy

Coach certification registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable to another individual. However, If you can provide the USMS national office with a minimum of 72 hours notice before the start of the scheduled course, you may transfer your registration to a course at an alternate date and location. Written email notification must be sent to clubandcoach@usmastersswimming.org
