Instructors: Dominic Latella, Mel Goldstein and Bill Brenner
Dominic Latella is the Assistant Head Coach of L4 Swimming which services swimmers in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Coach Latella has a decade of experience training Masters swimmers nationally and abroad. He is an adjunct professor of Health and Fitness at American University and also works in swimming rehabilitation of Paralympic Military athletes in Washington, D.C. Coach Latella focuses on execution of appropriate swimming technique to achieve not only improved efficiency and propulsion, but to also prevent injury. Coach Latella’s philosophy emphasizes proper technique so that a swimmer may attain one’s best time while optimizing performance for a lifetime of swimming.
Mel Goldstein was the 2001 Speedo US Masters Coach of the year, Mel won the 1997 Ransom J. Arthur MD Award that goes annually to a person who best supports the objectives of Masters swimming. It is the highest honor bestowed by United States Masters Swimming. He is a past President of USMS and a USMS All American with 255 Individual Top Ten Achievements. In 2012, he was inducted into the International Masters Swimming Hall of Fame.
Bill Brenner is the Education Director for USMS. He has 30 years coaching experience working with age group, college and Masters swimmers. Bill has served as a support team member for his local Masters club, team representative to the LMSC, an LMSC officer as the Top Ten Recorder, a multi-year delegate to the USAS convention and a member of national committees. He has served as the meet director for multiple events, helped organize the 2013 Pan American Masters championship and hosted the 2014 and 2015 YMCA Masters national championship in Sarasota, Fla.. A USMS Level 4 certified Masters coach, he enjoys attracting adult athletes to the sport of swimming and coaching all levels of ability.
Prerequisites: You must be a current USMS Member to participate in the course and receive USMS certification.
Certification Process: Upon successful completion of the classroom coursework, including all required applications and successfully completed tests, each person will be awarded USMS Level 1 or 2 Certified Masters Coach certification.
Fees: $180 for Levels 1 and 2 Certification. $100 for Level 1 or Level 2 only.
Maximum: Maximum attendance is 40.
Who should attend? Current full-time, part-time, volunteer coaches or anyone interested in becoming a Masters coach. Anyone interested in starting or supporting a Masters program.
Scholarships:
The NC LMSC will fully subsidize the cost of registration, as well as reasonable transportation costs, for those NC LMSC athletes who successfully complete Coaches Certification at the August 15, 2015 event in Raleigh.
Scholarship requirements are as follows:
Coach certification registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable to another individual. However, If you can provide the USMS national office with a minimum of 72 hours notice before the start of the scheduled course, you may transfer your registration to a course at an alternate date and location.
