ALTS Instructor Certification - Chicago, IL

U.S. Masters Swimming is hosting a USMS ALTS instructor certification course on Saturday, October 24, 2015, in the Chicago area.

Classroom instruction: 9:00am to 1:00pm
Lunch: 1:00- 2:00pm *

Instructor: Bill Meier

Bill Meier is the Aquatics Director for Bard College at Simon’s Rock and the Head Coach of the PaceMakers Swim Team. As the Chairman of the New England LMSC, he directed the effort that led to the "April is Adult Learn to Swim Month" initiative which included training over 100 volunteers to teach non-swimming adults. Bill has run a successful SwimAmerica program for almost 20 years and has coached age-group, high school, college and Masters programs.  Bill is a USMS Level 3 certified Masters coach. He was the captain of his college team and, as an ocean lifeguard on the south shore of Long Island, competed in the Ironman and Ocean Dory races.  

ALTS Prerequisites: You must be a current USMS member to participate in the course and receive USMS ALTS Instructor  certification. You must be able to perform the following 5 water competency skills:

• Step or jump into the water over your head.
• Return to the surface and float or tread water for one minute.
• Turn around in a full circle and find an exit.
• Swim 25 yards to the exit.
• Exit from the water. If in a pool, you must be able to exit without the use of a ladder.

Certification Process: Upon successful completion of the classroom coursework and the in-water instruction, including all successfully completed tests, each person will be awarded USMS ALTS Certified Instructor certification.

Fees: $300 per instructor registration. Your ALTS instructor certification is valid until December 31, 2015 and can be renewed by paying a $30 annual fee when updating your USMS membership each year.  USMS provides references and support for active member instructors only.

Maximum: Maximum attendance is 40.

Who should attend? Anyone who teaches, or wants to teach, adult swim lessons both publicly and privately.  Anyone interested in supporting their community by helping to teach adults to swim.

Online Registration:
Online registration only. Registration closes at midnight pacific time on October 23, 2015 or when the course enrollment reaches 40.

Your online registration for this course will be paid by credit card and processed by Club Assistant. Please look for "ClubAssistant.com Events" on your credit card statement.

Lodging:
The Hilton Garden Inn has offered a special rate of $109 plus tax for this event.  In order to receive this rate you must call the hotel at 847-296-8900 and ask for the US Masters swimming group rate or visit the Hilton Garden Inn - US Masters swimming special reservation page that has been created for this event.  Please note that there are a limited number of rooms available and the cutoff date for the guestroom rate is 9/25/2015.
