Instructors: Mel Goldstein and Bill Brenner
Mel Goldstein was the 2001 Speedo US Masters Coach of the year, Mel won the 1997 Ransom J. Arthur MD Award that goes annually to a person who best supports the objectives of Masters swimming. It is the highest honor bestowed by United States Masters Swimming. He is a past President of USMS and a USMS All American with 255 Individual Top Ten Achievements. In 2012, he was inducted into the International Masters Swimming Hall of Fame.
Bill Brenner is the Education Director for USMS. He has 30+ years coaching experience working with age group, college and Masters swimmers. Bill has served as a support team member for his local Masters club, team representative to the LMSC, an LMSC officer as the Top Ten Recorder, a multi-year delegate to the USAS convention and a member of national committees. He has served as the meet director for multiple events, helped organize the 2013 Pan American Masters championship and hosted the 2014, 2015 and 2016 YMCA Masters national championship in Sarasota, Fla. A USMS Level 4 certified Masters coach, he enjoys attracting adult athletes to the sport of swimming and coaching all levels of ability.
Prerequisites
You must be a current USMS member to participate in the course and receive USMS certification.
Certification Process
Upon successful completion of the classroom coursework, including all required applications and successfully completed tests, each person will be awarded USMS Level 1 or 2 Certified Masters Coach certification.
Fees
$180 for levels 1 and 2 certification. $100 for level 1 or level 2 only. Please note that levels 1 and 2 coach certification are designed to be taken together, on the same day, since we usually do not return to the same location each year. Level 1 is offered in the morning and level 2 follows in the afternoon.
Maximum
Maximum attendance is 40.
Who should attend?
Current full-time, part-time, volunteer coaches or anyone interested in becoming a Masters coach. Anyone interested in starting or supporting a Masters program.
Scholarships
For any coach registered with a Pacific Masters Swimming club and recognized by that club as a coach, Pacific Masters Swimming will reimburse up to 80% of the early registration fee of any USMS Coaching Clinic conducted within the Pacific Masters Swimming region. Other clinics conducted within the Pacific Masters Swimming region deemed by the Coaches Chair to be relevant to Pacific Masters Swimming members may be reimbursed at the same rate. Scholarships will be issued after completion of the course with a certificate of completion and receipt of registration. Coach certification registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable to another individual. However, If you can provide the USMS national office with a minimum of 72 hours notice before the start of the scheduled course, you may transfer your registration to a course at an alternate date and location. Written email notification must be sent to clubandcoach@usmastersswimming.org
