2018 PRESENTERS (Updates to presenters will be added as they become availabe)
  • Bruce Gemmell is an ASCA Level 5 Coach and was named the National Coach of the Year by ASCA in 2013, 2014, and 2015, he also received USA Swimming's Golden Goggle for Coach of the Year in 2013, 2014, 2015. He has been a US National Team Coach 10 times and a National Junior Team Coach 13 times. He was the Head Coach of the 2012 US Junior World Open Water Team and the 2017 US FINA Jr World Championships Team. He was an assistant coach on the 2014 Pan Pac Team, the 2013 and 2015 World Championships, 2010 Junior Pan Pacs, and 2016 Olympic Team. Bruce joined the NCAP staff in 2012.

  • Bo Hickey is the head performance coach with RITTER Sports Performance and is a contributor to usms.org and SWIMMER Magazine. He is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA and holds a B.S. in Kinesiology and an M.S. in Exercise Science. Bo has worked with a multitude of ability levels, from beginners to Olympic trials competitors. His training has led him to roles at the Facebook company headquarters as well as with the United States Department of Defense. 

  • Joel Stager is a University of Miami graduate with a B.S. in Biology, and while completing his graduate degree in Physiology at Indiana University he worked with legendary swim coach James 'Doc' Counsilman.  He completed an NIH funded Post Doc at Colorado State University which focused on the effects of intensive training upon young swimmers.  Joel returned to Indiana in 1984 to head the Exercise Physiology Program in Human Performance and initiate the Counsilman Center for the Science of Swimming at IU.  Joel and his students have published more than 150 research articles, book chapters and monographs on the science of swimming.   He has coached at various competitive levels and have swum Masters for nearly four decades.

  • Jack McAfee has been swimming most of his life, he was an age group swimmer with Stingrays Swimming in Atlanta, GA from 1992-2002.  In 2000 Jack joined USA Triathlon where he rose through the amateur triathlon ranks, earning All-American status for the 11th time in 2017. He is currently a member of team Every Man Jack, an elite amateur team based in San Francisco with athletes across the country.  His triathlon accolades include two Age Group National Champion titles as well as winning the Sprint Triathlon World Championships in 2013 and Ironman Florida in 2016. Jack is co-founder of the Chattanooga Open Water Swimmers and a 7-time participant in the USMS sanctioned Swim the Suck. In 2016, he co-founded the Knoxville Open Water Swimmers and the following year he founded and directed the Bridges to Bluffs 10k which is scheduled to be the host for the 2019 USMS 10k National Championship.

  • Gary Hall, Sr. - Since retiring in 2006 as a physician, and moving with his wife Mary, to Islamorada in the Florida Keys, Dr. Gary Hall has now dedicated his life to coaching technique and training methods to children, Masters, fitness and health swimmers, and triathletes and others at The Race Club Camps. He brings his science background, knowledge and experience in stroke mechanics and a strong passion for swimming to offer an unsurpassed quality of teaching at The Race Club in both Islamorada and Coronado, California. Swimmers of all ages and abilities come from around the world to learn from and be inspired by Gary Hall Sr. and give themselves the lifetime gift of swimming. He was a leader as Captain of the Indiana University team that in his senior year won its 6th straight NCAA Championship. Gary was elected team co-Captain for the Olympic men’s teams of 1972 and 1976. In 1976, he was selected by all of the United States Olympic athletes to carry the American Flag leading the Olympic Team into the Opening Ceremonies in Montreal, Canada. He was the only USA swimmer ever selected for that honor until Michael Phelps in 2016.

Registration fee includes Friday night hors d’oeuvres reception, refreshment breaks with snacks and beverages on Saturday morning and afternoon during the presentations, Saturday lunch, Saturday dinner, all presentations on Saturday, pool sessions on Sunday, and electronic copies of presentation materials.  All handouts, maps and schedules will be provided in electronic format prior to the weekend.
  • $195 per coach if registered by June 15, 2018
  • $225 per coach if registered between June 16 and September 3, 2018
  • $250 per coach if registered between September 4 and October 14, 2018
Note - USMS certified coaches who are designated coaches will automatically receive a $20 discount during registration.

There are a limited number of hotel rooms available at the Marriott and you must book your room directly with Marriott to obtain your group rate of $149 per night for the National Coaches Clinic. Rooms are available on a first-come, first serve basis until the block is full or we reach the cut-off date of Friday, September 28, 2018. USMS will ­not book accommodation reservations for coaches. Reservations can also be made by calling Marriott central reservation number at 1-800-228-9290 and reference the 2018 National Coaches Clinic.
