Instructors: Jim Carr and Dominic Latella
Jim Carr is a USMS ALTS certified instructor and USMS certified Level 2 Masters coach. Jim has many years of experience working with youth and adult athletes. He swam and played collegiate tennis in the early seventies followed by 25 years as a teaching tennis professional. Jim has done graduate work in exercise science and has held certifications through the American College of Sports Medicine, the National Strength and Conditioning Association, the United States Professional Tennis Association, and the Cooper Institute. He has also worked with the United States Figure Skating Association to develop strength training programs for athletes. In addition to being an avid Masters swimmer himself, he currently coaches both high school and masters swimmers.
Dominic Latella is the owner and Head Instructor of SwimBox, an endless pool facility that services swimmers in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, Northern VA, and MD. Coach Latella works with physical therapists, strength & conditioning coaches, & sports medicine doctors to give the safest and most well rounded swim lessons to his clients. He has over a decade of experience training Masters swimmers nationally and abroad and is a Level 4 USMS Certified Coach. He also works in swimming rehabilitation of Paralympic Military athletes in Washington, D.C. at Walter Reed. Coach Latella focuses on execution of appropriate swimming technique to achieve not only improved efficiency and propulsion, but also to prevent injury. His philosophy emphasizes proper technique so that a swimmer may attain one’s best time while optimizing performance for a lifetime of swimming.
Requirements
Coach certification registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable to another individual. However, If you can provide the USMS national office with a minimum of 72 hours notice before the start of the scheduled course, you may transfer your registration to a course at an alternate date and location. Written email notification must be sent to clubandcoach@usmastersswimming.org
