The classroom(s) allocated for this are Room 86 and 87 in the 6/7 Administration building.  Parking lots 5 and 6 are the closest to the Administration building 

Instructors: Bill Brenner and Dave Burgess

Bill Brenner is the Chief Operating Officer and Education Director of U.S. Masters Swimming. He has over 35 years of experience coaching swimming at the age group, college and Masters levels. A USMS certified level 4 Masters coach, Bill has been involved in the evolution of the USMS Masters coach certification courses curricula and has taught hundreds of classes to thousands of Masters coaches. Bill established the USMS Adult learn-to-swim certification program and serves as an ALTS lead instructor. With the knowledge acquired from coaching 20-30 Masters swim clinics each year, Bill recently wrote the USMS Clinic Course for Coaches, teaching Masters coaches how to run a successful USMS stroke development clinic. Bill serves as an ambassador and advocate for USMS by visiting hundreds of existing clubs and workout groups, establishing new Masters programs, speaking at national aquatics conferences and maintaining relationships with strategic partners such as USA-Swimming, USA-Triathlon, Y-USA, LifeTime Fitness and the Kroc Centers. Prior to joining USMS as a staff member, Bill served USMS as a volunteer at the local and national level. He has been a swim meet director, support team staff member and coach at his local program, the Sarasota YMCA Sharks Masters. Bill enjoys sharing his passion for swimming with others by encouraging adults to swim for life.

Dave Burgess is highly involved in U.S. Masters, high school, and age group swimming. He is the head coach of the Podium Swim Club, a U.S. Masters Swimming group based in Colorado Springs, which caters to swimmers and triathletes who are looking to improve performance, as well as those that are relatively new to swimming. He is also the head coach of the Discovery Canyon High School men's swim team, as well as an assistant coach with Colorado Springs Aquatics swim club. He is a USMS Adult Learn To Swim certified lead instructor, a USMS Level 3 Masters coach, a USA Swimming / ASCA level 3 coach, and is a USA Triathlon level 2 certified coach . Dave also holds a certificate in sports and performance nutrition.

Requirements

  • You must be a current USMS Member to participate in the course and receive USMS certification.
  • You must review and study the USMS coach certification level 1 Coach Certification Reading Assignment on the USMS website prior to arriving to the level 1 & 2 coach certification class.  This information will not be presented in class but questions pertaining to it WILL be on the level 1 coach certification test that you will take during the class.
Certification Process
Upon successful completion of the classroom coursework, including all required applications and successfully completed tests, each person will be awarded USMS Level 1 or 2 Certified Masters Coach certification.

Fees
$190 for levels 1 and 2 certification. 

Maximum
Maximum attendance is 30.

Who should attend?
Current full-time, part-time, volunteer coaches or anyone interested in becoming a Masters coach.  Anyone interested in starting or supporting a Masters program.

Scholarships
All members of New Mexico LMSC will receive a $50 rebate upon completion of the course. Contact Robert Wilson for information.

Online registration only. Registration closes at midnight Pacific time on Friday, March 15, 2019 or when the course enrollment reaches 40.

Cancellation Policy

Coach certification registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable to another individual. However, If you can provide the USMS national office with a minimum of 72 hours notice before the start of the scheduled course, you may transfer your registration to a course at an alternate date and location. Written email notification must be sent to clubandcoach@usmastersswimming.org
