Instructors: Mike Hamm and Mel Goldstein
Mike Hamm is a USMS ALTS certified lead instructor and USMS certified level 3 Masters coach. He has coached swimming for 46 years, including 21 at the Masters level. He is currently the head Masters coach at the Kroc Center in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He also owns the Hamm Swim School in Coeur d’Alene, where they specialize in individual instruction for all levels of swimmers. He is an Olympic Trials qualifier, USA All-American and USMS All-American, and he set several NCAA Div. II national records while in college.
Mel Goldstein was the 2001 Speedo US Masters Coach of the year, Mel won the 1997 Ransom J. Arthur MD Award that goes annually to a person who best supports the objectives of Masters swimming. It is the highest honor bestowed by United States Masters Swimming. He is a past President of USMS and a USMS All American with 255 Individual Top Ten Achievements. In 2012, he was inducted into the International Masters Swimming Hall of Fame.
Prerequisites
You must be a current USMS Member to participate in the course and receive USMS certification.
Certification Process
Upon successful completion of the classroom coursework, including all required applications and successfully completed tests, each person will be awarded USMS Level 1 or 2 Certified Masters Coach certification.
Fees
$180 for levels 1 and 2 certification. $100 for level 1 or level 2 only. Please note that levels 1 and 2 coach certification are designed to be taken together, on the same day, since we usually do not return to the same location each year. Level 1 is offered in the morning and level 2 follows in the afternoon.
Maximum
Maximum attendance is 40.
Who should attend?
Current full-time, part-time, volunteer coaches or anyone interested in becoming a Masters coach. Anyone interested in starting or supporting a Masters program.
Scholarships
The MT LMSC is offering the following: any Montana-registered USMS member who completes levels 1, 2, or 3 of the USMS Coach certification courses is eligible for reimbursement as follows:
Coach certification registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable to another individual. However, If you can provide the USMS national office with a minimum of 72 hours notice before the start of the scheduled course, you may transfer your registration to a course at an alternate date and location. Written email notification must be sent to clubandcoach@usmastersswimming.org
