Instructors: Mel Goldstein and Bill Brenner

Mel Goldstein was the 2001 Speedo US Masters Coach of the year, Mel won the 1997 Ransom J. Arthur MD Award that goes annually to a person who best supports the objectives of Masters swimming. It is the highest honor bestowed by United States Masters Swimming. He is a past President of USMS and a USMS All American with 255 Individual Top Ten Achievements. In 2012, he was inducted into the International Masters Swimming Hall of Fame.

Bill Brenner is the Chief Operating Officer and Education Director of U.S. Masters Swimming. He has over 35 years of experience coaching swimming at the age group, college and Masters levels. A USMS certified level 4 Masters coach, Bill has been involved in the evolution of the USMS Masters coach certification courses curricula and has taught hundreds of classes to thousands of Masters coaches. Bill established the USMS Adult learn-to-swim certification program and serves as an ALTS lead instructor. With the knowledge acquired from coaching 20-30 Masters swim clinics each year, Bill recently wrote the USMS Clinic Course for Coaches, teaching Masters coaches how to run a successful USMS stroke development clinic. Bill serves as an ambassador and advocate for USMS by visiting hundreds of existing clubs and workout groups, establishing new Masters programs, speaking at national aquatics conferences and maintaining relationships with strategic partners such as USA-Swimming, USA-Triathlon, Y-USA, LifeTime Fitness and the Kroc Centers. Prior to joining USMS as a staff member, Bill served USMS as a volunteer at the local and national level. He has been a swim meet director, support team staff member and coach at his local program, the Sarasota YMCA Sharks Masters. Bill enjoys sharing his passion for swimming with others by encouraging adults to swim for life.

Prerequisites
You must have completed Levels 1&2 of the USMS Masters coach certification program and be a current USMS Member to participate in the course. Please note that you can not take the level 3 certification on the same weekend that you are taking levels 1&2.

Certification Process
Upon successful completion of the certification process, including all required memberships, applications and completed tests: Each person will be awarded a USMS level 3 Certified Masters Coach certificate.

Fees
$225 for Level 3 Course.

Maximum
Maximum attendance is 25.

Who should attend?
Current full-time, part-time or volunteer coaches who would like to explore the possibilities of coaching Masters swimmers as a profession. Anyone interested in supporting their existing team and coach.

Scholarships
The Arizona LMSC will provide financial support to cover 50% of the course registration fees for AZ LMSC member coaches who successfully complete the coach certification and/or clinic course for coaches.  The LMSC will not provide financial support for travel or other costs to attend these clinics. Individuals requesting financial support from the AZ LMSC must be registered USMS and AZ LMSC members for the year during which the coaching clinic takes place. Individuals must submit a request, providing the information below, to the Arizona LMSC copying the Registrar, Treasurer and Secretary prior to the clinic taking place.  Please include the following information: Member info- Name, Address, Phone, DOB, USMS #, Clinic attended, location and dates of clinic and signature line agreeing to terms. Individuals will receive reimbursement no later than 45 days after they have submitted proof to the LSMC Treasurer of successful completion of the course. This proof must be submitted within 30 days after the course is completed. If you are from another LMSC, please contact your LMSC for scholarship availability.

Cancellation Policy

Coach certification registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable to another individual. However, If you can provide the USMS national office with a minimum of 72 hours notice before the start of the scheduled course, you may transfer your registration to a course at an alternate date and location. Written email notification must be sent to clubandcoach@usmastersswimming.org
