U.S. Masters Swimming is hosting a USMS levels 1&2 Masters coach certification course on Saturday, April 14, 2018 in Boston, MA.

Instructors: Cokie Lepinski and  Jim Carr 

Cokie Lepinski has founded and coached two Masters teams. She was named Coach of the Year by US Masters Swimming in 2014; received the Dorothy Donnelly award in 2014, the USMS Kerry O’Brien award in 2010 and the Pacific Masters Coach of the Year award in 2011. Passionate about stroke technique, Cokie continues to coach stroke clinics and write articles for USMS.

Jim Carr is a USMS ALTS certified instructor and USMS certified Level 2 Masters coach. Jim has many years of experience working with youth and adult athletes. He swam and played collegiate tennis in the early seventies followed by 25 years as a teaching tennis professional. Jim has done graduate work in exercise science and has held certifications through the American College of Sports Medicine, the National Strength and Conditioning Association, the United States Professional Tennis Association, and the Cooper Institute. He has also worked with the United States Figure Skating Association to develop strength training programs for athletes.  In addition to being an avid Masters swimmer himself, he currently coaches both high school and Masters swimmers. 

Prerequisites

• You must be a current USMS Member to participate in the course and receive USMS certification.
• You must review and study the USMS coach certification level 1 prerequisite information on the USMS website prior to arriving to the level 1 & 2 coach certification class.  This information will not be presented in class but questions pertaining to it WILL be on the level 1 coach certification test that you will take during the class.

Certification Process
Upon successful completion of the classroom coursework, including all required applications and successfully completed tests, each person will be awarded USMS Level 1 or 2 Certified Masters Coach certification.

Fees
$190 for levels 1 and 2 certification. 

Maximum
Maximum attendance is 40.

Who should attend?
Current full-time, part-time, volunteer coaches or anyone interested in becoming a Masters coach.  Anyone interested in starting or supporting a Masters program.

Scholarships
The New England LMSC is pleased to offer $50 scholarships to NE-LMSC members who successfully complete the level 1-2 or level 3 coach certification and/or ALTS certification courses. The NE-LMSC will issue the scholarship as a reimbursement to members post event. Checks will be mailed to the member’s address on file with USMS. You may contact NEcoaches@usms.org if you have any questions. If you are coming from another LMSC, please contact your LMSC for scholarship availability.

Online registration only. Registration closes at midnight Pacific time on Friday, April 13, 2018 or when the course enrollment reaches 40.

Lodging

Coach certification registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable to another individual. However, If you can provide the USMS national office with a minimum of 72 hours notice before the start of the scheduled course, you may transfer your registration to a course at an alternate date and location. Written email notification must be sent to clubandcoach@usmastersswimming.org
