U.S. Masters Swimming is hosting a USMS levels 1&2 Masters coach certification course on Saturday, September 15, 2018 in Portland, OR.

Instructors: Mike Hamm and Mel Goldstein

Mike Hamm is a USMS ALTS certified lead instructor and USMS certified level 4 Masters coach. He has coached swimming for 47 years, including 22 at the Masters level. A recipient of the Kerry O’Brien Coaches Award, he is currently the head Masters coach at the KROC Center in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He also owns the Hamm Swim School in Coeur d’Alene, where they specialize in individual instruction for all levels of swimmers. He is an Olympic Trials qualifier, USA All-American and USMS All-American, and he set several NCAA Div. II national records while in college. 

Mel Goldstein was the 2001 Speedo US Masters Coach of the year, Mel won the 1997 Ransom J. Arthur MD Award that goes annually to a person who best supports the objectives of Masters swimming. It is the highest honor bestowed by United States Masters Swimming. He is a past President of USMS and a USMS All American with 255 Individual Top Ten Achievements. In 2012, he was inducted into the International Masters Swimming Hall of Fame.

Prerequisites

  • You must be a current USMS Member to participate in the course and receive USMS certification.

  • You must review and study the USMS coach certification level 1 prerequisite information on the USMS website prior to arriving to the level 1 & 2 coach certification class.  This information will not be presented in class but questions pertaining to it WILL be on the level 1 coach certification test that you will take during the class.
Certification Process
Upon successful completion of the classroom coursework, including all required applications and successfully completed tests, each person will be awarded USMS Level 1 or 2 Certified Masters Coach certification.

Fees
$190 for levels 1 and 2 certification. 

Maximum
Maximum attendance is 40.

Who should attend?
Current full-time, part-time, volunteer coaches or anyone interested in becoming a Masters coach.  Anyone interested in starting or supporting a Masters program.

Cancellation Policy

Coach certification registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable to another individual. However, If you can provide the USMS national office with a minimum of 72 hours notice before the start of the scheduled course, you may transfer your registration to a course at an alternate date and location. Written email notification must be sent to clubandcoach@usmastersswimming.org
