Turkeyfoot Lots-Of-Fun Open Water Swim

GENERAL: This event will be jointly sanctioned with Lake Erie Swimming, Inc. This means there will be boys and girls from ages 10 and up swimming as well as us grizzled masters swimmers. The kids will swim first. The kids will start registration/check-in at 7:45am, will have a pre-race meeting, warm-up, and will start swimming at 9:30am. They will be pretty much done swimming by 10:30am. The timeline below is based on the kids being finished by 10:30am. For masters swimmers, this will be what is called a Noncompetitive event. Every swimmer will receive a time. But we can be flexible with swimwear issues. In other words, wetsuits will not be an issue as long as the water temperature does not exceed 78 degrees. This is not a charity fundraiser event. T-shirts will NOT be available. There will be NO AWARDS. We will announce times after the event so swimmers can have bragging rights. This will be a No Frills event. Post-event food may be scarce. Bring your own swim cap. I can’t promise changing facilities so you might want to wear your swimsuit under your clothes when you arrive to swim. The entry fee is really CHEAP. But we expect to have lots of fun.

 

EVENTS: There will be ½-mile, 1-mile and 2-mile swims on a triangular course in Turkeyfoot Lake, Portage Lakes State Park, 5031 Manchester Road (OH Rte 93), Akron, OH  44319. The start and finish will be on the beach. The course will consist of a one-quarter mile, east-west triangular course that runs parallel to the beach waterfront affording good visibility for spectators. Multiple masters heats will start 5 minutes apart. The number and makeup of heats will be determined by the Event Director based on the final number of entries. Heat information will be emailed to swimmers prior to Race Day.  A 90 minutes time limit will be in effect for all distances.

RULES & ELIGIBILITY: Current 2011 USMS Rules will govern this event. 2011 USMS registration is required of all participants. One Event USMS Registration is available for an additional fee.

 

 

 

FEES:

$15.00 USMS One Event Registration Fee

 

 

AGE GROUPS: 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, etc in five year increments as high as necessary for both men and women.

 

CHECK-IN:  Participants who are not known to our check-in volunteers may be required to show Photo ID.

 

SAFETY: The Event Safety Plan will be emailed to all participants prior to Race Day. However, all swimmers must have their race number put on their arm. 

 

WATER TEMPERATURE: Anticipated water temperature will be in the range of 72 to 78 degrees.

POSTPONEMENT: Sunday July 17th has been designated as the backup date. The competition site will remain the same.
