Events: The August 25, 2013 chip timed events are:
AquaRun for a Child (1.2-mile/2K swim followed by a 3.1-mile/5K run) individual race and relay,
1.2 mile/2K and 2.4 mile/4K Open Water Swim for A Child, and
3.1mile/5K Run for a Child along the Old Tacoma Waterfront on Commencement Bay.
Race Description: The Swim is a triangular swim course that starts in the water at Les Davis Marine Park between two orange triangular buoys and proceeds northeast(NE) to the first right hand turn around the outside of a tall yellow cylindrical buoy at 0.4 and then heads southeast (SE) to a second right hand turn around the outside of a tall yellow cylindrical buoy at 0.8 miles and finally West (swimming with the current) to the two triangular buoys requiring a left hand turn in-between them and then to shore to finish to 1.2 mile course. The 4K swimmers will touch the second farthest orange buoy on their first lap and turn right and swim another loop before exiting the water in the same manner as the 2K swimmers. Aquathletes will exit the water and head for the designated transition area before starting the run. The 5K run course starts at Les Davis Marine Park on the path as designated and heads west and back on the same running path paralleling Ruston Way. Restaurant driveways will be monitored with volunteers meant to help-but it is the runner’s responsibility to be aware of turning traffic. All events complete through their respective finish chutes.
