ASSUMPTION OF RISK: We, Worcester Area Masters and WPI, have taken enhanced health and safety measures – for athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, and meet management. You must follow all instructions while participating in/spectating at 2022 Colonies Zone and New England LMSC SCM Championships or on site at WPI Pool. An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, senior citizens and guests with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable. By participating in/spectating at 2022 Colonies Zone and New England LMSC SCM Championships and being on-site at WPI Pool, you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19.

RELEASE: Worcester Area Masters, WPI, and New England LMSC cannot prevent you or your child(ren) from becoming exposed to, contracting, or spreading COVID-19 while participating in swimming events. It is not possible to prevent against the presence of the disease, therefore, if you choose to participate in a swimming event, you may be exposing yourself to and/or increasing your risk of contracting or spreading COVID-19. By attending or participating in this competition you voluntarily assume all risks associated with exposure to Covid-19 and forever release and hold harmless Worcester Area Masters, WPI, and New England LMSC and each of their Officers, Directors, Agents, employees or other representatives from any liability or claims including for personal injuries, death, disease or property losses, or any other loss, including but not limited to claims of negligence and give up any claims you may have to seek damages, whether known or unknown, foreseen or unforeseen, in connection with exposure, infection and/or spread of Covid-19 related to participation in this competition.

SAFETY PROTOCOLS DUE TO COVID RESTRICTIONS: Per Worcester Polytechnic Institute Standards all Participants, Spectators, Coaches and Meet Staff are required to wear a face covering for the duration of their time on campus. Face coverings must cover the mouth and nose. Spectators may or may not be permitted on campus depending on the current status level of the threat to the University and Worcester County. If spectators are permitted, spectators will enter the building via the Turf entrance and proceed up the stairs to the Spectator Gallery. Spectators will be allowed entry 30 minutes prior to the start of the session. The spectator areas will be limited based on the current Covid guidelines from the university. Teams may be assigned a limited number of spectators based upon their number of entries. If spectators are limited live video will be provided. If the Covid-19 risk rises between publication of this meet announcement and the final day of entry Locker Rooms may be closed.

Number of individuals gathering in each area of the facility including all spaces, the pool, deck and spectator seating, and all other areas to be used: Currently no limits.

MEET ENTRY FEE: The cost of registration is $30 plus $7 per event. Your credit card will be charged by “TNT Swimming” for this swim meet.

DISTANCE EVENT ENTRY CAP: The 800m event may be capped by the Meet Director. This is to help ensure a timely conclusion of the session on Friday, December 10. All online and mailed entries received on the day when the caps are reached will be accepted. Mailed entries received after the day that the cap is reached will be refunded for the entered distance event.

ENTRY DEADLINE: The entry deadline is Saturday, December 3. Paper entries must be received by December 3 to be considered meeting the entry deadline. The Meet Director reserves the right to close entries early in the interest of ending a day’s session on time. Enter early to guarantee your spot!

ENTRIES: Maximum of six (6) individual events per day, per swimmer. There is no limit on the number of relays a swimmer may enter. You must include a seed time for each entered event. Entry times of “NT” will not be accepted. Mail your entry form, copy of your 2022 or 2023 USMS card (required), and check (payable to TNT Swimming) to: NELMSC SCM Champs, 4 Cameron Street #2, Worcester, MA 01604.

No refund of entry fees will be issued for any reason. Swimmers may not change workout group affiliation after completing their first relay or individual event.

ELIGIBILITY: 2022 or 2023 registered United States Masters Swimming (USMS) swimmers 18 years or older as of December 31, 2022. Also, 2022 or 2023 registered masters swimmers from other countries.
RULES: 2022 USMS rules apply. We will use dive-over starting. If you need more time to exit the pool, please notify the meet referee in advance.

POOL: Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) Sports and Recreation Center, host of the Bay State Conference Championships, New England Senior Championships, MIAA Boys North & Central/South Championships, America East Conference Championships, Northeast-10 Conference Championships, and the NEWMAC Championships.

 
  • Ten-lane SCM competition course with five additional lanes of warm-up/warm-down.
  • Electronic timing and LED scoreboard.
  • Vast deck space for 500 swimmers. Spectator seating for over 400 persons.

The length of the competition course is in compliance and on file with USMS in accordance with articles
105.1.7 and 107.2.1, but as a bulkhead course, is subject to length confirmation. Eligibility of times for USMS Top 10 and Records will be contingent on verification of bulkhead placement.

DIRECTIONS: GPS address- 153 Salisbury Street, Worcester, MA 01609.

From the East:- Take Mass. Turnpike (I-90) to Exit 11A (I-495). Proceed north to exit 25B (I-290), then west into Worcester. Take Exit 18 (Lincoln Sq., Rte. 9), turn right at end of ramp, then an immediate right before next traffic light. At next light, proceed straight through, bearing to the right on Salisbury St. Turn left at the first entrance after the hill. Proceed straight towards the parking garage on the right.

From the North:- Take I-495 south to I-290. Follow directions from east.

From the South and West:- Take Mass. Turnpike (I-90) to Exit 10 (Auburn). Proceed east on I-290 into Worcester. Take Exit 17 (Lincoln Sq., Rte. 9), turn left at end of ramp, follow Rte. 9 west through Lincoln Sq., straight onto Highland St., then right at light onto Park Ave. Proceed through first light, then turn right at the first entrance. Take first right, then proceed to the entrance of the parking garage.

SPLIT REQUESTS: All split requests from individual events must be requested using the official USMS Split Notification Form. The form must be fully completed with the correct event, event number, heat, lane, split event, swimmer’s name, sex, age, meet name, and date of swim. Also, the swimmer must notify the Meet Referee of the intent to record an initial split time prior to the conclusion of the meet. All relay initial legs will be automatic splits.

DQ NOTIFICATIONS: The posted meet results will indicate whether a swimmer has been disqualified. If needed, a swimmer can approach the meet admin table to find out the reason for their race disqualification.

POOL ENTRY/EXIT: Due to the limited space on the bulkhead, all swimmers are asked to stay off the bulkhead until 2 heats prior to their swims.


At the end of their races, swimmers are kindly asked to exit the pool at the sides instead of via the bulkhead.

TIMING SYSTEM: An automatic timing system will be used for the competition. Times from this competition will be eligible for world record, USMS record, and Top 10 consideration.

HEAT SEEDING: All events are timed finals. Heats seeded by sex from slowest to fastest, except for the 800m, which is seeded in heats from fastest to slowest, alternating between women and men. The Meet Director or Meet Referee shall have the right to change seed times that are obviously incorrect based on previous performances. Entries without seed times will not be accepted.

AWARDS: Certificate for mounting an adhesive label record of your performance in each individual event. Awards will be given to the top three Large (31+ swimmers), Medium (10-30), and Small (4-9) teams. Team size is based on swimmers entered in the meet. They will also be given to the overall highpoint male and female swimmer.

Results will be available on SwimPhone at the end of each day. Heat sheets and results will be posted on Meet Mobile as they become available. Results posted on Meet Mobile are not official and may contain errors.

WARM-UP/WARM-DOWN: On Friday, both pools will open for warm-up at 4 pm and the main pool will close at 4:30 pm. Lanes 2, 3, 8, and 9 of the main pool will open for one-way sprints at 4:20 pm. On Saturday and Sunday, both pools will be available for warm-up at 9:00 am and the main pool will close at 9:50 am. Lanes 2,3,8, and 9 of the main pool will be open for one-way sprints at 9:30 am. The 5-lane warm-up/warm-down pool will be available during the entire meet. Both pools will be available for warm-down 15 minutes after the last heat of the session.

RELAYS: Relay swimmers must be entered in at least one individual event. Relays will be deck entered at the meet and must be submitted by 9:30 am (day's first relay) and 1 pm (day's remaining relays).
Swimmers will be allowed one relay for each relay event; swimmers may not be on a single-sex and mixed-sex relay of the same event. Due to USMS rules, all swimmers on a relay must be affiliated with the same USMS team.

SCORING: The first sixteen places in each individual age group event will score in the following sequence: 17, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.

The top sixteen relays in each age group event will score double points.

TEAM BANNERS: You are encouraged to bring your team’s banner. We will have blue tape or Command hooks to post banners. Please do not use duct tape or any other adhesive that will leave residue on the walls.
