Sanction
This meet is being held under USA Swimming/Sierra Nevada Swimming sanction number SNS19-43. This meet will be conducted in accordance with USA swimming Article 701 which outlines the conduct and officiating of open water swimming. According to 202.4.8 in granting this section, it is understood and agreed that USA Swimming shall be free and held harmless from any liabilities or claims for damages arising by reason of injuries to anyone during the conduct of the event. The Competition course has not been certified in accordance with 104.2.2C(4). Use of audio or visual recording devices, including a cell phone, is not permitted in changing areas, rest rooms or locker rooms. Changing into and out of swimsuits other than in locker rooms or other designated areas is prohibited. The USA Swimming Open Water Meet Application can be downloaded by clicking here.

Events

  • 5,000 m Ages 13 & Older, Masters Race Start: 9:00 am - $40
  • 3,000 m Ages 11 & Older, Masters Race Start: 11:00 am - $35
  • 1,000 m Ages 9-10, Masters Race Start: 12:30 pm - $25

* There will be a MANDATORY pre-race safety meeting which all athletes must attend to participate in the race.  The mandatory pre-race meetings will be held at the following times: 5,000 m: 8:50 AM, 3,000 m: 10:50 AM; 1,000m: 12:20

* * Races will need to be completed by the time allotment. Swimmers still in the water after the time allotment will be escorted to shore. 5,000 m: 1hr 45min, 3,000 m: 1hr 15 min, 1,000 m: 30 min

Entry due date is September 13. Entries received prior to September 13 will receive a race shirt, entries received after September 13 will not receive a race shirt. Website registrations will be taken through the day of the event.

Race Day registration will be available (via registration website) at the registration tables until race limits (100 swimmers per event) is met.

Directions & Parking:
80 east Reno
From Hwy 80 you will take the Douglas Blvd. exit out of the city of Roseville. Go east on Douglas for about 6 miles make a right on Auburn-Folsom Rd. go about 2½ miles until you come to a stop light the sign will say Beals Point and you make a left.

Hwy 50 S Lake Tahoe
Take the Folsom Blvd. exit go north on Folsom for about 7 miles (the road will change names to Folsom- Auburn) you will come to a stop light, the sign will say Beals Point and you make a right.


Parking Fees at Beals Point are $12

Awards:
First through Third awards will be given to age group winners 14 and below.

Water Safety:
Swim caps will be mandatory for the swims. If you are not wearing your team cap or are not wearing the official cap issued, you will not receive a swim time. We ask for your cooperation in this matter to assure a fair, accurate, and smoothly run event. The course will be monitored by both safety boats and paddlers.

Escorts: Individual escorts will not be allowed.

Abandonment: Participants can abandon the race by waving hands over their head to signal a request for support from on course safety craft. Any swimmer deemed to be in peril can be required to abandon the race at the discretion of the meet safely officer or designated safety personnel. Once a swimmer has abandoned the race, they will not be allowed to continue the race.

Safety Plan:
Max number of swimmers on the course at a time: 100

On course safety craft:

  • The lifeguards shall be on Jet Ski or rescue board.
  • Safety crafts/vessels (with race officials) will be stationed at each turn buoy and along the perimeter of the race-course.
  • Additional officials will be assigned to monitor the start/finish and warm-up areas.


Rapid response to troubled athletes:
CONSCIOUS SWIMMER:

  • If a swimmer becomes panicked or otherwise needs assistance from rescue personnel they shall raise one arm in the air and/or wave arm
  • The nearest Lifeguard will be dispatched to engage swimmer and give flotation
  • An assessment will be made as to the status of the swimmer and whether he/she can finish the race or not.
  • If he/she need to come to shore and/or need any medical assistance, the Lead Medical Personal and/or Meet Safety Director will be summoned for assessment and transport, if required.
  • This will be relayed to land unit/race coordinator along with swimmer name/race #
  • Lead Medical Personnel and/or Meet Safety Director will assist swimmer on shore and patient will either be assisted to ambulance for further evaluation or to finish line for accountability and DNF designation.

UNCONSCIOUS SWIMMER

  • If a swimmer is witnessed to be unconscious at the surface of the water, the nearest lifeguards will respond and give flotation and open airway.
  • Race Safety Officer will radio in the status of the patient/race #, request paramedics and execute an emergency transport to shore.
  • Patient will be transported straight to waiting ambulance.


Warm-up/Warm-down plan:
Swimmers are allowed to warm-up and warm down between 8:30 – 12:30 adjacent to the start/finish line except during race starts. Warm-up and warm-down will be supervised by race officials certified by USA Swimming, along with additional supervision provided by certified CA State Parks & Recreation staff


Course & Water Temperature:
Courses will be marked by buoys at the turns. The expected water temperature is between 75 - 80 degrees F.

Course Modification, Duration, or Cancellation:
If for any reason the situation on race day safety becomes a concern, the meet may be canceled at the discretion of the Meet Director, Meet Referee, or Independent Safety Monitor. Refunds will not be given due to event cancellation.

Equipment:
Only swimsuits complying with FINA Open Water swimsuit specifications may be worn. Click here for link to website of approved suits.

Use of wetsuits shall result in that swimmer being ineligible for place points. The use of fins, pull buoys, or other
swimming devices will result in instant disqualification. Soft hand paddles may only be used as prosthesis - provided,
in the opinion of the Race Director - they do not present a safety hazard to other swimmers.
