SAFETY/TIME LIMIT
Click for Safety Plan
For safety reasons, participants should be adequately trained for open water competition. Orange County Lifeguards reserve the right to remove any swimmer from the course. Each swimmer must wear the provided swim cap on their head during the duration of the swim. Removal of the provided swim cap will result in the swimmer being disqualified from the race and escorted to the beach by safety personnel.

Previous open water experience is recommended. Swimmers not completing the race course in the required time of 1.5 hours for the 2.4 mile race, 40 minutes for the 1 mile race, and 10 minutes for the 400 yard race will be notified that the race is over and that they must leave the water at that time. Results will show their time as Did Not Finish (DNF).

Safety watercrafts (e.g. jet skis) and lifeguards on paddleboards will monitor the entire course. Swimmers must wear body-marked race numbers on arms and cap for identification. Medical personnel will be on-site.

PROOF OF TIME/PERFORMANCE
2.4 mile event—Swimmers must submit proof of achieving a SCS red time in a freestyle event 800 meters/1000 yards or longer in their age group or proof of successful completion of an open water event 1 mile or longer within the past year.

1 mile event—Swimmers must submit proof of achieving a SCS red time in a freestyle event 400 meters/500 yards or longer in their age group or proof of successful completion of an open water event 0.5 miles or longer within the past year.

400 yard event—Swimmers must submit proof of achieving a 10 & Under SCS red time in a freestyle event 200 yards or longer or proof of successful completion of any open water event within the past year.

CHIP TIMING
Each swimmer will be given a timing chip to wear under his/her swim cap during the race to provide accurate times and finish places. Back-up timing will also be used in case of lost timing chips.

Results and awards will be available within 30 minutes of the last swimmer finishing. Timing provided by One Time Racing.

CONDITIONS
The safety of swimmers is our primary concern. Therefore, this event may be delayed or canceled due to poor conditions. The Event Director and Orange County Lifeguards will make this decision.

SWIMWEAR
All entrants will receive an official race cap. This cap must be worn during the entire race. No fins, buoys, or other devices will be allowed. Wetsuits are not permitted. Only USA Swimming approved swimwear is allowed (see website).
