Location: West Neck Beach, Huntington, Long Island, New York (3 miles north of Main Street Huntington Village).

Race Venue: Race headquarters will be located at the Town beachfront.
Restroom facilities are located at race venue; there are no locker rooms.
Outdoor shower facilities are available. Check-in and awards will be on the beachfront.
Post-race bagels, fruit, coffee and refreshments will be available.

Parking: Parking will be available at the Town beach parking lot adjacent to race venue. Parking fees are waived for all participants, volunteers and spectators during race on event date.

Eligibility:

• Swimmers must be at least 18 years of age and have prior open water swimming experience.
• Age determination date for this event is Sunday, June 24, 2012. Open to all 2012 USMS-registered and FINA masters swimmers.
• If you would like to renew USMS membership or join USMS, use links available during online event registration or go to www.usms.org/reg. 
• If you are currently NOT a member of United States Masters Swimming (USMS) you may pay a One Day Event Registration fee of $20.00 added to the race fee to participate in the event.

Race Divisions:
Division 1: ONE Mile Swim Masters Non-Wetsuit
Division 2: ONE Mile Swim Masters Wetsuit
Division 3: TWO Mile Swim Masters Non-Wetsuit
Division 4: TWO Mile Swim Masters Wetsuit

Course: The 1 Mile course is a one-mile loop from a water start to a land finish. The 2 Mile course is a one-mile loop swum twice around with a water start and a land finish. Swim course will be clearly marked with buoys. Wave designations and direction of swim will be determined closer to race date subject to the number of race entrants and anticipated weather and water conditions. Expected water temperature range is 65-70°F, with some chop due to wind and the possibility of flotsam, jetsam and jellyfish.

Rules: All applicable 2012 USMS rules, regulations, and safety requirements will be enforced. All swim suits and equipment for Divisions 1 & 3 (Masters Non-Wetsuit) and Divisions 2 & 4 (Masters Wetsuit) must conform to the current USMS open water rules.* Individual support craft other than designated race craft are not permitted on race course.

*In September 2010, the USMS House of Delegates voted to follow new regulations regarding swim suits for open water competition, effective January 1, 2011. For men, the swim suit shall not extend above the navel or below the knee. For women, the swim suit shall not cover the neck, extend past the shoulders, nor extend below the knees. There are no “fastener” specifications.

Timing: Electronic timing will be used. Each swimmer will wear an electronic timing chip on an ankle bracelet to automatically record their time. Timing chips will be collected at the finish area. Swimmers who fail to return their timing chip will be assessed a $30 charge.

Time Limit: Any swimmer who does not complete the 1 mile swim within 45 minutes and any swimmer that does not complete the 2 mile swim within 1.5 hours will be asked to exit the water and scored as a "DNF" (Did Not Finish).

Age Groups: 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39 and so on in five-year increments, as high as necessary for men and women.

Safety: Lifeguards and kayaks will monitor the course. There will also be a safety boats (Huntington Harbor Master, Oyster Bay Harbor Master, Cold Spring Harbor Fire Dept ) to keep boat traffic away. Huntington Community First Aid Squad EMT personnel will be on site. Any medical emergency will be taken to Huntington Hospital which is located three miles from race venue. In case of inclement weather or dangerous conditions, the race director may modify or close the course and prevent swimmers from completing the race. Swimmers will be given a highly visible numbered swim cap that must be worn as the top cap during the swim. All non-wetsuit swimmers must have their race number on their arms and caps, all wet suit swimmers must have their numbers on their caps and hands. Body-marking (race numbering) will occur on event day during check-in.

Awards: Awards will be presented to the top three finishers by gender in each age group. Special awards will be presented
to the overall male and female finishers in each Division. Awards ceremony will be held on the beachfront. Results will be posted online at: www.westneckswim.com, and www.metroswim.org

Race registration opens Monday, April 30, 2012 and CLOSES at 11:59PM ET on Tuesday, June 19, 2012.

*$10.00 of your entry fee will be donated to the Huntington YMCA Swimming Scholarship for Kids Program.
