ALTS Instructor Certification --North County beta class

U.S. Masters Swimming is hosting a USMS ALTS instructor certification course on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, in North San Diego County.

Saturday, Sept. 23
Check-in: 8;30-9 a.m.
Classroom instruction: 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
In-water pool instruction: 2-4 p.m.

Please bring your own lunch to eat either in class or between the classroom and pool.

Instructor
Ruthy Vesler is a USMS-certified Adult Learn to Swim instructor and Level 3 USMS coach. Vesler is a former professional triathlete and professional stand up paddleboard racer. Ruthy currently coaches San Diego Swim Masters at the Mission Valley YMCA and works with athletes one-on-one and in small groups.

ALTS Prerequisites
You must be a current USMS member to participate in the course and receive USMS ALTS Instructor certification. You must be able to perform the following water-competency skills:

• Step or jump into deep water and return to the surface
• Float or tread water for one minute
• Turn around in a full circle and find an exit
• Swim 25 yards to the exit
• Exit from the water

Certification Process
Upon successful completion of the classroom coursework and the in-water instruction, including all successfully completed tests, each person will be awarded USMS ALTS Certified Instructor certification.

Fees
This class is being offered by invitation only and at a discounted rate of $100 to friends of USMS-ALTS. Successful participants will receive full certification benefits for the calendar year in which they took the class. At year's end, upon USMS membership renewal, certified instructors are asked to pay a $30 designation fee in order to maintain certified-instructor benefits and services from the National Office.

Who should attend?
The instructor, as part of her training to be a USMS-certified lead ALTS instructor, will identify and invite class participants. Participants can include anyone who teaches, or wants to teach, adult swim lessons both publicly and privately, or anyone interested in supporting their community by helping to teach adults to swim.

Online registration only. Registration closes at midnight Pacific time on Friday, Sept. 22, or when the course enrollment reaches 5.
