Instructors: Lisa Brown and Jim Carr  

Lisa L. Brown 
is founder and head coach of Zionsville Aquatic Masters and Aquatics Director of Zionsville Aquatic Center in Indiana. Lisa is a Lifeguard Instructor Trainer for the American Red Cross and Certified Pool Operator. Each year, Lisa coordinates free adult swim lessons through Swimming Saves Lives Foundation for adults in the Zionsville area.  Lisa is an accomplished and experienced competitive swimmer, including multiple open water swims such as, National Cable and open water championships, Big Shoulders 5k and Manhattan Beach Pier-to-Pier, as well as 25K and 10K USMS National Championship swims. Lisa’s corporate background includes several certifications in training and business development. Now she applies that corporate experience to helping fellow swimmers achieve their fitness and competitive goals. Lisa is also a lead USMS-certified Adult Learn to Swim instructor and USMS level 3 certified coach.

Jim Carr is a USMS ALTS certified instructor and USMS certified Level 2 Masters coach.  Jim has many years of experience working with youth and adult athletes. He swam and played collegiate tennis in the early seventies followed by 25 years as a teaching tennis professional. Jim has done graduate work in exercise science and has held certifications through the American College of Sports Medicine, the National Strength and Conditioning Association, the United States Professional Tennis Association, and the Cooper Institute. He has also worked with the United States Figure Skating Association to develop strength training programs for athletes.  In addition to being an avid Masters swimmer himself, he currently coaches both high school and masters swimmers. 

Prerequisites

  • You must be a current USMS Member to participate in the course and receive USMS certification.
  • You must review and study the USMS coach certification level 1 prerequisite information on the USMS website prior to arriving to the level 1 & 2 coach certification class.  This information will not be presented in class but questions pertaining to it WILL be on the level 1 coach certification test that you will take during the class.
Certification Process
Upon successful completion of the classroom coursework, including all required applications and successfully completed tests, each person will be awarded USMS Level 1 or 2 Certified Masters Coach certification.

Fees
$180 for levels 1 and 2 certification. $100 for level 1 or level 2 only. Please note that levels 1 and 2 coach certification are designed to be taken together, on the same day, since we usually do not return to the same location each year.  Level 1 is offered in the morning and level 2 follows in the afternoon.

Maximum
Maximum attendance is 40.

Who should attend?
Current full-time, part-time, volunteer coaches or anyone interested in becoming a Masters coach.  Anyone interested in starting or supporting a Masters program.

Scholarships
The Potomac Valley LMSC is pleased to offer education scholarship assistance to PV-LMSC members who successfully complete the level 1-2 or level 3 coach certification and/or ALTS certification courses. Cancellation Policy

Coach certification registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable to another individual. However, If you can provide the USMS national office with a minimum of 72 hours notice before the start of the scheduled course, you may transfer your registration to a course at an alternate date and location. Written email notification must be sent to clubandcoach@usmastersswimming.org
