Instructor Certification Adult Learn to Swim
U.S. Masters Swimming is hosting a USMS ALTS instructor certification course on Friday, June 5, 2020, in Great Barrington, Massachussetts.
This course is TENTATIVE pending minimum enrollment in the National ALTS Instructor Retreat. The retreat requires a seprarate sign-up and fee. You may -- and are encouraged to -- sign up for both this class and the retreat. Register for the retreat here.
Your credit card will not be charged for this class until the class is confirmed (on or before March 16). You will be notified on class status on or before that day.
Friday, June 5
Check-in: 7:30-8 a.m.
Classroom instruction: 8 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.
Lunch: 12 p.m.*
In-water pool instruction: 1:30-3:30 p.m.
*Lunch will be provided by USMS. Please note that most of the lunches are sandwich-based and do not always include a vegetarian option or recognize dietary restrictions and food allergies. If you have food restrictions, please feel free to bring along something that will accommodate your needs.

Instructor
Bill Meier is a lead USMS-certified Adult Learn to Swim instructor and Level 4 USMS-certified Masters coach. He is the facility director for the Kilpatrick Athletic Center at Bard College at Simon’s Rock in Great Barrington, Mass., and the head coach of the PaceMakers swim team. As the chairman of the New England LMSC, he directed an effort to teach adults to swim, and that program has grown into USMS’s national April is Adult Learn-to-Swim Month campaign. Bill has run a successful SwimAmerica program for almost 20 years and has coached age-group, high school, college and Masters programs. He was the captain of his college team and, as an ocean lifeguard on the south shore of Long Island, competed in the Ironman and ocean dory races. He is a Dorothy Donnelly Service Award recipient, which is given to outstanding USMS volunteers.
ALTS Prerequisites
You must be a current USMS member to participate in the course and receive USMS ALTS Instructor certification. You must be able to perform the following five water-competency skills:
Upon class confirmation, ALTS certification course registrations are non-refundable and non-transferrable to another individual. However, you may transfer your registration to a course at an alternate date and location. Questions, please email Holly Neumann.
