2022 Sarasota Sharks Relay and Sprint Meet
Sunday, April 3, 2022
Sanctioned by the Florida LMSC for USMS, Inc.
WELCOME to the first-ever Sarasota Sharks Relay and Sprint Meet! The primary focus of this meet is RELAYS. We are offering ALL relays in the 25-yard course (the 200s, 400s, and 800)! For those swimmers who don't have enough teammates to fill a relay team, we are also offering six sprint events (all four 50s plus the 100 IM and 100 Free). So there is something for everyone at this meet!
HOW DOES THIS MEET WORK?
RELAYS:
Each team (USMS club) that attends will need someone to serve as their "Relay Captain." (Sharks swimmers, Rick Walker will serve as your Relay Captain.)
-
The swimmers self-enter the meet, check boxes for the relays they're willing to swim, and pay the entry fee.
-
After individual swimmer entries close, the meet directors will compile a roster of athletes and the swimmers' stroke preferences for each team and post it on this page.
-
The Relay Captains will review their rosters and assemble the relays for their teams.
-
The Relay Captains will go through the Club Assistant entry process to submit all of their relays online. There is no charge for submitting the relays. (The Relay Captain will need to be a USMS member of that club to proceed through the USMS verification step and to view that club's entrants.)
-
The heat sheets are generated and posted on this page prior to the meet.
-
The swimmers show up, and HAVE FUN!
INDIVIDUAL EVENTS:
-
If a swimmer wants to participate, but either doesn't have teammates for relays or doesn't want to swim relays, they may enter and swim the individual sprint events instead. We are offering the four 50s plus the 100 IM and 100 Free.
QUESTION: I want to enter relays but I don't know whether anyone else from my club is coming.
ANSWER: Before you enter the meet, you'll need to find three other swimmers from your club who are willing to commit to attending the meet, and assembling and organizing your relays. If you can't find others from your USMS club who want to participate, you can enter and swim the individual events instead (the four 50s plus the 100 Free and IM).
QUESTION: What if some of my swimmers don't show up the day of the meet? Can we substitute other swimmers?
ANSWER: Yes! We will allow substitutions. Note that if the age of the substitute swimmer is younger than the current age group for that relay, the relay's age group will be changed to the lower age group.
QUESTION: What if I'm the only swimmer from my USMS club? Can I participate?
ANSWER: Not in the relays, but you can participate in any of the five individual sprint events that will be offered (the 50s of each stroke plus the 100 IM and 100 Free).
QUESTION: May I swim in both relays AND individual events?
ANSWER: Yes! You're welcome to do both. You may enter up to SIX individual events, PLUS check boxes for as many relays as you want to swim! To enter an individual event, you'll enter your seed time into the appropriate box during the online entry process. To indicate your availability for a relay, you'll check that relay box.
QUESTION: What are the relay age groups?
ANSWER: The age groups are determined by the age of the youngest swimmer on the relay and are 18+, 25+, 35+, 45+, and so on in 10-year increments. So, for example, a relay that consists of swimmers ages 26, 37, 49, and 68 would compete in the 25+ age group.
QUESTION: I still don't understand how this works.
ANSWER: Contact Rick Walker or Anna Lea Matysek (emails below).
